Rolki

Hello my darlings!

I'll do a recap of the past few days tomorrow, but for now, I leave you with this drawing:

Natalia (the niece) and I have been rollerblading each evening for the past three days. Yesterday the house needed some stuff from the market, so we went shopping on our roller-blades!!

It was honestly great fun! Felt like the Power Rangers at the beginning of the Mighty Morphin  movie ^_^ Remember it?

Always,
S

University Sneak Peak

Hello my darlings!!

This weekend I stayed with my awesome cousin, wife, and soon to be born baby, ^_^, in Wroclaw which is where I'll be living this semester.

Yesterday on Saturday we went over their friends' place, had a grill, and played a game like Cranium, except in Polish...and it included Polish idioms. I lost miserably. It was hard OkAy?!

Today we walked around the city, saw my dormitory, and had pizza and ice cream.

First solo train ride in Europe!!!

A train! Well, not mine, but, A TRAIN!

Always,
S

Expectations.

Hello my darlings!

At some point in my life I was taught to not have expectations when traveling. Expectations would lead to disappointments and what not, supposedly.

So, I do just that. I travel without expectations......

Expectations: No

Imagining-Fabulous-things-that-could-potentially-happen-to-me-and-I-would-not-be-sad-if-they-did-ations? YES.

Here are a few things I would TOTES be okay with happening during my study adventurebroad [sic]. (There are more, but I figured a nice round number of 10 would suffice.)

1) Meet:

2) Oh ya know, have a night like this

Caro Emerald on the mind

3)

I dunno, just cuz. It seemed appropriate. Join me! I'll bring the clothes...

4) This and this. THEY'RE SO DARN HAPPY ON THAT BIKE!

Hehehe oh friend, you're so funny!

La-dee-dah, oh friend what a nice evening sun for a post bike ride stroll!

5) Do some additional traveling

Necessary cliff jump

Vespa+Rome

6) Attend

7) Bond with people via this song,

8) Go THROUGH

9) EAT FOOD.

And,

10)YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES.

If you heard about my visa story, you'll know that I was anticipating THIS whenever there was a long pause during my phone call to the embassy. Long pause. No such news. YET.

Not too bad, eh?

Always,
S

GREETINGS FROM POLAND

Hello my darlings!

GREETINGS FROM POLAND!!

This post is long. I'm sorry. I PuT pIcTuReS in it though!!

So...I might as well start from the beginning...or rather what I'll dub the beginning.

Mum (yes, mum...it's aesthetically appealing and fun to say, don't you agree?) drove me to Atlanta for my flight which would depart at 6:15 PM. The drive mostly involved us singing to fab 90's throwbacks.

We got to the airport and scurried around the airport trying to find Lufthansa; it wasn't were it used to be. After reading some maps and using my sense of directional smell, we figured out we had to take an airport bus to the new international portion of the airport.

Once there we went to the baggage check area and turned in my bags...yes, I ended up having to take two.*
I just kinda kept smiling in an attempt to distract the nice baggage lady from noticing my big carry on. It worked. Well, at least I wasn't questioned about it. Score.

So my mom and I hung out in the lobby until I absolutely had to go.

Experienced an "I want my mommy moment."
This may not be the actual scene...but she had a phone, so that's important.

Props to you if you know what I'm referring to!

La-dee-da, we said our goodbyes and I went through those fun (not to be read sarcastically, my China traveling friends can attest to this, I love them) body scanning things...with my Mod sunglasses because I forgot to put them in a basket. I looked ridiculous. The security man chuckled.

Das me.

As soon as I got out my backpack got flagged down. Security man number 2 had to go through it. He threw out my peanut butter. I was sad.

Loaded the plane only to find that the man in the row next to me was snoring. Like, really snoring. Like, REALLY snoring. It was awful.

And then I noticed my personal screen wasn't working.

Then we were flying. Once the seat belt light turned off I went back a few rows and took a vacant seat with a working screen.
Sat down only to find all the words were in Portuguese or something. All I know is my 3 years of high school Spanish was enough to get me to the language menu ans switch to English. Hallelujah.

Aside from a light two hour nap during which I listened to the new Regina Spektor and The Hunger Games soundtrack, I watched movies and tv shows nonstop.

I landed in Frankfurt and had to walk and walk and walk and walk and walk and walk to my gate. I had to wait 3 hours for my next flight so I mostly read and stared out the window, trying not to fall asleep.

I more or less passed out on my next flight.

Landed in Wroclaw, got my bags, and was greeted by my cousin and friend with such cheerful smiles!

^ This honestly happened. AND, there was a girl at the airport with a cookie monster shirt! Perfection.

They drove me to see my aunt and uncle and then I was off to my grandparents. I fell asleep at 8:45PM and slept for a delicious 12 hours.

My body's still in transition mode and is like "WHYYYY are you eating at 3 AM?!?!" I'm sorry tum tum.

Cool, more later then!

Always,

Syl

*We bought a fancy pants big one but when we loaded it up it was overweight and would cost $150 versus $100 to simply bring an extra bag. So we did the latter.
